#37 “Step 6: Making Your Supplication”
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything, by prayer and petition
[“supplication” NKJV], with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6
New
International Version (NIV)
Now
we come to the sixth step which is “supplication”, the opening scripture say, “Be anxious for
nothing,” this statement alone kind of gives us a clue as to what
supplication is. When we make supplication we are petitioning God on our own
behalf. “Lead me, O Lord, in your
righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.” Psalm
5:8 (ESV)
This is something we ourselves need. It’s also why we are admonished to be anxious for
nothing, because we often worry about our own personal needs and
not for others. I mean, have you ever stayed up all night worrying about your neighbor’s
light bill, or how they are going to pay the rent? No? Me either, so this is
why we make supplication, it gives us the opportunity to release it into God’s
hand once and for all.
Have
you ever heard the old saying “go ahead and get it off your chest,” well here’s
where you can do just that. This is the place of passionately release, so cry,
tell Him all about it, let it all out and hold nothing in. Then when you are
done, it should be done, from this point on you should have no need to come
this way again. Now you just stand on God’s word and confess it daily until you
see it manifested. Once you have
released a situation into God’s Hands, what would you have to worry about? Do
you believe God will take care of it? Do you trust Him to work it out? Then there
would be no need to keep coming before Him crying and weeping day after day
about the same thing…would it? Faith works this way, “You read the Word of God <>You
believe the Word of God<> You Stand on the Word of God <>
God Perform His Word on your behalf”...it’s that simple!
I’ll
have to admit something here, this is the place where I have the most trouble,
I’m so accustom to praying for others that I sometimes have difficulty asking
God for what I need. I just simply trust Him to take care of me. But there are
times when something will weigh heavy on my heart, and then trust me, I well
cry and supplicate before the Lord with the best of them. Especially when it is
concerning one of my children, then the mother in me kicks in real hard. Or when
I step out of my place and try to stand in God’s, you know when I try to “fix it myself” instead of going
to Him. This is when I’m quickly reminded that I’m trying to be God and there’s
only One God! Then when things come crashing down around my head; I step back
and say, “Lord forgive me,” from now on, I’ll do Me and let You do You! When things
start to get too hard for you to handle, then this is when you have taken on
more than your share. You have started trying to do some of God’s job. Once we
learn the difference of what I can do, verses what God can do, we’ll have a
much easier time dealing with issues of life.
A
time of supplication is generally accompanied with weeping, intense emotions and
deep passion during prayer. “And going a little farther He fell on His face and prayed,
saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless,
not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26:39 (ESV) Jesus, spent
hours in the Garden of Gethsemane, in deep passionate supplication before his crucifixion,
only to emerge more convinced to do the Father’s will. This
phase of prayer takes you into the first stage of “feeling the heart of God” during your prayer time and it
starts with YOU. Unfortunately most
people will stop right here, thinking that prayer is over with; because, they
have spent the past five or ten minutes crying and weeping. Supplication is an extremely
emotionally overwhelming experience with God; because of this they feel now they’re
done and ready to move on with their day. However, this is just the of getting “You”
out of the way, so “You” will have no distractions, when “You”
begin to intercede for others. It is here, when you’re come out of supplication,
that you’re truly ready to intercede for others; because, of the intense level
of emotional release you’ve just experienced. You can now channel all of that
passionate emotional fervency into interceding for others, in this heighten
state of being; you can easily shift into position for intercession. Supplication
is birth out of thanksgiving, because your thanksgiving brings God such
pleasure that He reveals to you what is in His Heart.
My
Prayer: Father, thank You for Your heart of compassion towards us, we thank You,
for Your mercy and grace. Father many of us will find it difficult to come to
you praying for our own personal needs, while others will know nothing else to
pray about. You Lord God know each of our hearts and You can direct us in the
paths we must walk in. Father we will not be anxious about anything and we will
by everything offer prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving letting our
requests be known to You. Thank You for covering us with your peace, which passes
all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. Amen!
Have A Bless Day…Go in God’s Peace!
