#53 “Identifying Barrier: To Answered Prayer!”
(Guilt and Condemnation)

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in
Christ Jesus; Because, through Christ Jesus the law of the
Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and
[its consequences] death.”
Romans 8:1-2
The Message (MSG)

Guilt and condemnation, have you ever been tormented by these two brothers? Yes I said brothers or at least close relatives, for where you find one there also will be the other. Many Christians are tormented by guilt and condemnation but they should not be. Do you know why? Because Romans 8:1-2 tells us why, “Therefore there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus...” that’s because, “Christ has set us free for the law of sin and death being made sin for us, For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh.” We have to except this truth and know that when we are experiencing excessive guilt and condemnation it is not coming for God.

So where does the guilt and condemnation come from? There are two places that this guilt and condemnation comes from, 1) our human spirit, because we have not forgiven ourselves for what we have done. Why because we just can’t believe that simply saying, “I’m sorry for what I’ve done, Lord please forgive me” is enough!  But the word of God says, “If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.” We have to be assured that when we do this, God will absolutely, unequivocally, positively forgive us, of our sins! Then we must forgive ourselves, this will complete the cycle.  Then when the enemy comes to bring guilt and condemnation upon us we can boldly tell him to be gone, because Christ has set me free!

The real reason we feel guilt is because we know that we have done something contrary to the law whether natural or spiritual. We then feel guilty and feel that we deserve some kind of punishment or restitution must be paid this then brings on feelings of condemnation. Why? Because we did something and instead of God punishing us He forgave us and we have a hard time wrapping our minds around that.  The truth of the matter is that we cannot keep the law, “Consequently I refuse to stultify the grace of God by reverting back to the Law. For if righteousness was possible under the Law then Christ died for nothing!” reading this verse reminds me of the movie, “The Last Sin Eater” in, which a group of community of Welsh immigrants in 1850s Appalachia, continued old customs from their former homeland even though they were in a brave new land free for the bondages of their past lives. Even when God sent someone to show them the way, the leader of the community killed him in order to keep the others in darkness. Doesn’t that sound just like Satan, which brings us to our second source of guilt and condemnation?

 2)  The second place guilt and condemnation comes from is the enemy, who wants us to believe that we have done something so terrible that God will not forgive us, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Satan is the accuser of the brother and this is what he loves to do to bring guilt and condemnation, “Now the salvation and the power and kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come! For the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down from this place, where he stood before our God accusing them day and night” Soon the day will come when the accuser will be defeated and he will accuse us no more. However until that day we must resist his lies and he will flee for us. Don’t believe him when he comes and tells you that you’re guilty of doing what he has tempted you with.  Just repent of doing wrong and know that God will and has forgiven you of your offence.  Just remember that the only sins that He (The Father) will not forgive you for is those you do not repent of.

Beloved, The best thing to do is make sure that there is no sin in your life right now, if there is place it under the blood of Jesus. Repent and allow Him to cast it into the sea of forgetfulness, thus cleansing you and making you free from guilt and condemnation and free to pray in His presence.  Then you can receive His forgiveness and love and draw close to him with confidence and faith: “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord, I will put my laws in their hearts and I will write them on their minds,” then He adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember in more.” And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us for a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

My Prayer: Father in Heaven thank you for Your loving-kindness and for Your forgiving grace. We thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to die for your sins, making us righteous through His blood. We repent of our sin and ask you to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  We thank you tha we know that once you have forgiven us we are truly forgiven and nothing or no one can alter that fact. So when Satan comes to make us feel guilty and condemned we will resist his lies and stand on your word. Thank you father in your Son’s name Amen!
