#66 “Understanding the Power of the God’s Word”
(The Word is Preparation for Prayer)
“Blessed
are they who keep His statues and seek Him with
all their heart.
They do nothing wrong; they walk in His way.
Your word I have
hidden in my heart that I might not sin against You.”
[Psalm 119: 2-3, 11]
King James Version
(KJV)
The word prepares us for prayer; this is my favorite part
of studying the word of God. Whenever we sit and meditate on the word of God,
we drew closer to God and by doing so it preparers our hearts and spirits for
praying. I remember once reading something in Benny Hinn’s book “Good Morning
Holy Spirit” he said that he would sit and read the word until the Holy Spirit
would show up. Have you ever been reading the word and come upon a particular
verse and all of a sudden the presence of God is all over you? Or perhaps you are reading and all of a
sudden you eyes fill with tears as you are reading a particular verse. This is
the Holy Spirit and there is where He wants you to stop and meditate on that
verse. Sometimes I will even begin to pray that verse. Stop and take the time
to really look at that verse and ask God what He wants you to know about
it. This is how the Holy Spirit gets our
attention and cause us to stop and examine the passage we’re reading for a
deeper revelation or understanding.
Often time it is at this point that I will enter into
intercession, because at that moment the presence of God is there and the Holy
Spirit will direct your prayer. As we
read the word we are reminded of the greatness of our God. When we read about
other great intercessors it encourages us to pray and believe God as well. The word
of God increases our faith to believe God not for what we can see but that
which we cannot see. Sometimes the situation doesn’t look favorable; therefore
we cannot go by what we see. Faith believes the impossible, when the doctor
says there is not hope, the word of God say, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen. Through faith we understand
that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen
were not made of things which do appear. ” it requires
faith in God’s word to believe for the impossible. “But without faith it is impossible to please
him: for He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”.
God is not a respecter of persons, what He
does for one He will do for another. Let’s
look at Elijah for instance; he was an ordinary man just like any other,
however when he prayed God stopped the rain for three and a half years because
he earnestly prayed. James 5:17-18 Jesus
said to his disciples that if they had faith as a grain of mustard seed they
could say, “to the mountain be though moved and cast into the
sea and it would have to obey them.” Where does this kind of faith come from? It comes
from reading the word and believing that He is the same God yesterday and today
and forever. Another way the word prepares us for prayer is it gives us
boldness and confidence in the authority of the word.
I recently had a situation in which I
had to believe the word of God in spite of what I was seeing. My baby brother suffered a brain aneurism and
was in a coma in ICU. Now the doctors were saying that He was gone and that
there was no hope. I had to decide whether to believe the word of God or go by
what I was seeing and hearing. Sometimes
the situation doesn’t look good but that is not an excuse to not believe God
for a miracle. When the doctors give up hope that is the time to stand on the
word of God and believe him for a miracle. I understood that the situation was
in God’s hand and all I could do is trust him to move according to his divine
will and purpose. This is not always
easy when everything and everyone around you is doubting and ready to call in
the undertaker. But I like king David held on to my faith in spite of the
report I was receiving, and trusting God to do what was best for my brother. David know that his son was going to die but
he prayed to God for a miracle just the same and so did I. God chose to call him home to be with Him
however, I maintained my hope right until the last heart beat. Why, because my
faith said God was able to turn the situation around and raise him up out of
the coma. Beloved don’t ever stop
believing God just because the doctors give up hope or the other family members
don’t believe, you hold on until the very end, because just like David said, “how do you know
that God will not relent and bring them back from deaths door?” so
don’t stop believing. Continue to stand on the word right up to the very end.
My Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach us to wait on you and
to trust Your word. It is by your word that the universe was formed and it will
be by your word that we will see miracles happen. Help us to trust Your word
and believe that it will do just what You said it will do. We thank you that
even in tuff time, difficult times we will trust You Lord. Just like the Shunammite women
when her son had died, we will say, “it is well” with full confidence that you have
the situation under control. Thank you, in Jesus name we pray Amen!!!
