88 “Wait in
Prayer, for the Promise”
“By common consent all these men together with the women
who had followed Jesus, Mary His mother as
well as His brothers
devoted themselves to prayer."
(Acts 1:12-14)
J.B. Phillips New
Testament (PHILLIPS)
Waiting, one of the most
challenging things I believe we as Christians must do. However everything
around us in society demands we wait… checkout lines, fast food drive thru, government
or municipal offices, customer services whether in person or by phone. Yet when
it comes to God most feel we shouldn’t have to wait, because we are dealing
with God Himself. However one of the
last things Jesus told His disciples before ascending to heaven was to wait. “Wait for the
promise of the Father.” Wait! Hum it seems that waiting is something
we’re going to have to do whether we liked it or not. But the question is what
are we waiting on? As intercessor we are often reminded that our answers to
prayer doesn’t hinge on our desires or even our time frame, but those of the
Fathers. When we pray we know that everything is according to the will of the
Father, and in His timing He will answer our prayer. “But when
the proper time came God sent his son, born of a human mother and born under
the jurisdiction of the Law, that he might redeem those who were under the
authority of the Law and lead us into becoming, by adoption, true sons of God.” (Galatians 4:4)
So what are we waiting for? We’re
waiting on God’s divine timing for the promise to manifest. The disciples were
told four things that would require their faith in Christ to be activated in
order to stand still and wait. What were they waiting for:
- “Wait for the promise of the Father.”
- “You will receive power after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you.”
- “You will be witnesses unto Me.”
- “Both In Jerusalem and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
These four statements are the
essence of what it means to be an intercessor and disciple of Christ. That is
unity in continuous prayer, the gift of the Holy Spirit and power, becoming
living testimonies of the risen Christ, in every City, Town, State and Nation
in the world. This is the gospel the true mission of the church.
What Jesus established prior to
leaving this earth was a united body of unceasing prayerful witnesses; who were
filled with power and the Holy Spirit. They would be eye witnesses to the
living Christ and carry that message the ends of the earth and every creature. This
was the church Christ promised would be founded upon the rock of Peter’s
testimony, “You
are the Christ Son of The Living God.” Upon this truth we are to
continue in pray and supplication in one accord or knitted together by the Love
of Christ for us. It is this oneness which gives us power and authority in
heaven with God and men on earth.

How then do we learn to wait on
God when everything around us is moving at 4G speed? But let us not forget that,
“they who wait upon the Lord will get new strength. They will rise
up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and
not become weak.” Our one responsibility is to wait
in unceasing prayer for the promise that God will answer our prayers; but what guarantee
were we given that the Father would in
fact answer… the Holy Spirit! All we need do is continue to pray the will of
the Father to be done in this earth and then wait for it to be manifested. It will be manifested!! We as the church will
remain the conquring force God intended for us to be if we maintain our faith
in His word.
We cannot allow this worlds influence to dissuade
us from walking in our mission here upon the earth, to pray the will of the
Father “be done
in earth even as it is in heaven.” We must not be wavering in our
prayer lives and to our mission to reach nations of this world.
My Prayer:
heavenly Father, have mercy upon Your people and Your church, fill us with the
Spirit of prayer and supplication just like You did with the disciple and the
believers of old. You have given us power to tread upon serpents and scorpions
and over all the powers of the enemy…now help us to walk in that power and authority
with boldness. Father we call forth all the intercessor, which You have
ordained for this time and season raise them up a might army; bring them out
their places of complacency and lethargy. Break the hold of the enemy that blocks your
people for advancing in Your Kingdom purpose. We pray in Jesus’ name Amen!!!
Have A Bless Day…Go in
God’s Peace!
