#75 “Great
Intercessors of the Bible”
(King
‘Solomon’- Peace)
“Lord my
God, You have now made Your servant
king in
my father David’s place. Yet I am just a youth
with no
experience in leadership."
(1 Kings 3:6-9)
The Message
(MSG)
Have
you ever found yourself in a position that you knew you were not qualified for;
yet you also knew, God himself had placed you there? What do you do in a case like this? Well you
do just what King Solomon did, ask God for help! “Lord my God, You have
now made Your servant king in my father David’s place. Yet I am just a youth
with no experience in leadership. Your servant is among Your people You have
chosen, a people too numerous to be numbered or counted.” (1 Kings 3:7-6) Solomon was only 12
years old when his father King David died and appointed Him king over the people
of Israel.
I
know most of may not think that King Solomon’s prayer was one of intercession
but you would be wrong. Solomon was just
12 years old yet he knew that in order to lead this great people he would need
the help of the Almighty. "I am but a small child ... Give therefore your
servant an understanding heart to judge your people..." (1 Kings 3:7) now Solomon’s request came as a response to
God’s asking Him what he wanted God to do for him after he was anointed King.
What 12 year old do you know that would make such a request of God, who has the
power to give them any and everything they asked? Yet even at this young age Solomon’s concern
was for the people, and how he would lead them.
Solomon’s request pleased God…Why?
Because it is the desire of God to have every one of His children ask for the
same thing…“Godly Wisdom to lead His people.” You see
by making such a request one would be saying, “Lord God I don’t want to do
my will but yours, so give me wisdom to do so.” God was so pleased here’s what His reply was,
“Because you have not requested riches and
honor but only that which would benefit all the people, I will give you not
only an understanding heart like none other before or after you ... but also
riches and honor like no other king in your days." (1 Kings 3:7-13)
So God honored Solomon’s request and then some, “His fame spread through all the surrounding nations. He composed 3,000
parables, and 1,005 poems. He discoursed about trees, from the cedars of
Lebanon to the hyssop that grows from the wall. He also discoursed about
animals, birds, creeping things and fish. Men of all nations came to hear
Solomon's wisdom, as did all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.” (1 Kings 5:11-14) Solomon went on to become known as the wisest kings in
the history, none before or after him was wiser.
Solomon primary concern was for the people God had
entrusted into his care, which was evident by his prayers let’s take a look at
another prayer he Prayed after completion of the Temple of God. “Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain You; how much less
this house that I have built? Yet have regard for the prayer of Your servant,
and for his supplication, O Lord my God, to listen to the cry and to the
prayer, which Your servant prays before You today; that Your eyes may be open
toward this house night and day, toward the place of which You have said, 'My
name shall be there,' that You may listen to the prayer ... of your people
Israel ..." (1 Kings 8:27-29) building God a permanent earthly dwelling place was David’s
dream however, God; but God told him that because he was a man with blood on
his hands he could not do it. But God told David, that because it was in his
heart to do this thing for Him, that He would let his son Solomon build the
house for Him.
Solomon was so glad that the Temple was completed that he
celebrated the completion of the Temple with sacrifices and offerings to the
Lord God. Even then Solomon’s heart remained towards the people for generations
to come… “Hear the cry and the
prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day. May your eyes be open toward
this temple night and day, this place of which you said, ‘My Name shall be
there,’ so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place.
Hear the supplication of your servant and
of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your
dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.” (1 Kings 8:29-30)
As we look at the patriarchs of the bible we see one
constant in each of their lives, their lives were pleasing to the Lord. Not because
they were perfect but because the trusted God perfectly! Because of this they
could ask anything of their God and He would do it for them. But isn’t that
what He has promised us as well through Jesus Christ? Then it
was because of men like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel), Moses and King
David; however today it is Jesus Christ for what these men could not do in the
flesh Christ did. “You can ask for anything in my name, and
I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.” (John 14:13)
My Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before you not asking that you bless us with riches,
houses or even fame. Grant us wisdom to do that, which You have called us to do,
discernment of see the difference between good and evil and insight to see the
enemy afar off. Enable us to rightly divide the words of truth and teach it to
others as to lead us. Thank You, Father for always hearing our prayers and
answering them. We pray these things in
Jesus’ name Amen!!!
Have A Bless Day…Go in God’s
Peace!
