#45 “Dealing with Barrier to Answered Prayer!”
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us,
that
we should be called children of God!
And
that is what we are!."
1 John 3:1
New
International Version (NIV)
What
a wonderful study in the 13 steps of prayer, if you follow this very basic steps you will have no trouble praying in the
morning noon or night. Beloved we must understand that we have been given a
wonderful privilege to be able to pray to the Father on behalf of others. Just be
aware that because of the serious and the urgency of your calling to prayer the
adversary will utilize every opportunity to make your prayers ineffective. He’s
already aware that without the proper amount and level of prayer within a
church it is weaken and virtually powerless. This is why he gives everything he
has to insure that prayer does not take place. When Christian don’t fully
understand the barriers they must overcome they will never be able to address
the other issues which will lead to unanswered prayer.
Many
of these barriers are recognizable yet we tend to ignore them for a while
giving them a greater power and effect in our lives. For this reason we will address a few common
mistaken beliefs regarding prayer. We will learn how they are different form
the way God describes them in His word:
1.
When
a Christian learns about prayer but fails to implement it in their personal
life. When we as Christian simply read the word but never put it into practice.
It’s not enough just to know about prayer, you must put prayer into action. Otherwise
ti will have not effect upon your life. Because you have learned how to pray
and the ins and outs of prayer you develop a false sense of pride regarding
prayer.
2.
Then
there is mental assent rather than
action this is the copy cat to faith, looking so much like it that most
can’t ever tell the difference. The phrase itself means “intellectually
accepting the word as real – admiring it and agreeing with it but not allowing
it to have an impact on your life. (Dr. Myles Munroe) This barrier will acknowledge that there is in
fact a God and the Bible is the inspired word of God. They will totally agree
one hundred percent with what the word says, but will not act upon it. A person
that mentally assents to God’s word will say Lord, what are saying is so true, I
love it so, but that’s as far as they will go. They will say, “My God will
supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians
4:19) however you will never see them trusting God for his provision in action
or deeds.
Another version of mental assent is “Sense
knowledge” they say I can’t believe in anything I cannot see. Or when I see it
then and only then will I believe it… sounds just like doubting Thomas doesn’t
it? He wouldn’t believe that the Lord had risen until he could touch Him for himself.
The word tells us, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of
things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) Faith
sees the answer before it is manifested and then calls it into existence by
declaring its arrival beforehand.
We
cannot simply listen to the word of God and think that it will work all on its
own. James says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourself. Do
what it says.” This is where mental assent if separated for real faith. Listen to what Jesus said, to the priests and
elders: “what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the
first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ ‘I will not,’ he
answered, but later he changed his mind and went. Then the father went to the
other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not
go. Which of the tow did what his father wanted? “The first, “they answered.
(Matthews 21:28-31) the second son in mental assent agreed to go and work but
never did what he said. The first son
was disobedient he still repented and went to work in the vineyards. This shows
us that just saying we believe won’t work we must activate our faith and put it
into action.
Tomorrow
we will cover the barrier of hearing the word, but not retaining it. So join us
back here, see you then!
My
Prayer: Father we thank you for your word that we will not be hearers only but
will put it into action within our lives. We will walk in faith believing what
you have said and expecting it to come to pass. Thank you for giving us the
ability to apply the word to every aspect of your lives, ministries, and
families and jobs we thank you for what you are doing and will continue to do
in Jesus name Amen!
