#49 “Identifying Barrier: To Answered Prayer!”
(Praying for more Faith)

“He replied, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed,
you can say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and  planted
in the sea,” and it will obey you”
Luke 17:6
New International Version (NIV)

How many times have you heard this parable of the mustard seed? The disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith, even though they were walking with The Lord every day. Have you ever asked the Lord to increase your faith? One would think that this was not necessary if you had Jesus with you every single day and could see all the miracles He preformed daily. Yet the disciples asked Him, “The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith! Jesus didn’t rebuke them for not having enough faith, he simply told them, “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and ti will obey you.” What do you suppose Jesus was trying to get them to understand?  Let’s take a closer look at this verse and find out.

The mustard seed is one of the tiniest seed in the world and yet once planted it produces a beautiful enormous tree. How can something so small produce something so large? When we are concerned about not having enough faith it would do us well to consider the mustard seed.  Jesus was telling His disciples that it did not matter how much faith they had, they only needed a very small amount to accomplish the work of the kingdom. How much faith does it take to get saved? How much faith does it take to get healed? How much faith does it take to pray for someone’s deliverance? It only takes faith the size of a mustard seed! You might say but all of those things are different surely they can’t take the same amount of faith! But it does, because the same amount of faith required to be saved is the same amount it takes to be healed. Why? Because in each instance you must believe that God is able to do what you ask Him too. So the faith is not in the salvation, healing or deliverance but it’s in the God that performs them. Do you believe that God is able? Then you already have faith the size of a mustard seed.

When we pray for the Lord to increase our faith we are in essence asking Him to increase our belief in His ability to do what we ask. So when we ask God to increase our faith, the truth is we don’t believe that God is able.  I can only recall on instance where someone ask the Lord to help their unbelief, “Jesus said unto him, if thou can believe, all things are possible to him that believe.” “and straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” but never to increase their faith. Therefore this is not a prayer you should have to pray to the Lord, because you should already know rather or not He is able to perform what your ask before you ask Him.

Faith is something that grows from experience from the day we ask the Lord to save us, and He does! Then the next time you need something from Him you will ask and He will do it…and the next, and the next and so on and on. This is how our faith is developed, as we trust God for the small things and He gives it to us then we will begin to trust Him for larger things and He will give us that as well.  “Now faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”(Romans 10:17) The more we practice the word we read the more we believe the word we read. The more we believe the word we read the more we will receive for the Father because we believe.

Just keep in mind that it is your God that will perform the request you ask of Him, therefore you must believe in your God. It by the word of God that your faith will grow so get more of the Word of God on a daily bases this will help you grow your faith. When you believe you will receive. That’s the long and short of it!! What did Jesus say in Matthew 9:29 “According to your faith will it be done to you.” So whatever it is you are asking God for remember it’s “According to your faith” that it will be done for you.” So make sure your faith is full and strong on a steady diet of the word of God.

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for what you are doing in the earth and in our lives today. Thank You for being a God whose promises never fail.  As we grow in faith we trust you to perform your word just as you promised. We will study your word in order that we may grow thereby both spiritually and mentally, on a daily bases. Thank you for the revelation knowledge which you will give as we study your word in Jesus name we pray Amen!

Have A Bless Day…Go in God’s Peace!
