#80 “Understanding the Role of Fasting”
(Benefit’s of fasting?) Pt4

“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan a
nd was led by the Spirit into the desert, where for forty
days He was tempted by the devil.".
[Luke 4:1-2]
King James Version (KJV)

Today we will discuss the benefits of fasting. When we turn off the food and turn up the presence of God there are tremendous benefits. When we fast it amplify our spiritual capacity. It also allows us to exercise discipline when it comes to our human appetite which substantially drives our daily choices. It will also help us bring our physical man into submission when it comes to what our spirit man wants. When we are not being driven or enticed by our physical appetites; because, of fasting our spiritual man becomes stronger and more alert.

Another result of fasting and prayer is it causes our bodies, souls and spirits to surrender more readily to the Lord, Jesus Christ. It also produces a heightened awareness of the Holy Spirits presence; which gives restored determination and service to God. It’s almost like being in a revival all by ourselves.  There is no feeling like that of having your spirit man standing tall over your flesh. You feel as if you could conquer anything. I can recall one particular time of prayer and fasting before the Lord, I called it, “The Summer of the Psalmist.” You see I had no clue why the Lord was drawing me into a fast; I just knew I had to obey.

After getting my husband’s permission to enter into a time of fasting and prayer, I started a 30-day fast.  It was such a wonderful time of fasting, prayer and meditation before the Lord. However around the second week of the fast the Holy Spirit began to give me songs from the Psalms. One particular morning I had been in prayer for quite a while and once finished I stood up to leave the room. As I stood up I noticed that it seemed that as I stood up in the physical my spirit stood up as well. However the spirit man stood up much taller that my physical man did. As I started walking it was as thought a giant was walking within me.

By my being obedient to fast when the Lord told me to at the end of the summer the Lord placed a mantel of a Psalmist upon me that year.  When the Lord draws us away for a season it usually because he what’s to take us higher or bring us into a new calling. Fasting also sharpen our spiritual hearing to hear God more clearly.

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach us the way we should go and how to follow Jesus example in fasting and prayer. Help us to learn the value and importance of fasting in conjunction with our prayers. Help us to learn that our pray time is not intended for us but a time for us to seek your face and gain instruction for what to do during our day. As we learn to see our time of prayer and fasting as a time to pray for the needs of other and the conditions of this world, we are confident you will take care of everything we ourselves have need of. Thank You Father for your many blessings in Jesus name we pray, Amen!

Have A Bless Day…Go in God’s Peace!
