#87 “Great Intercessors of the Bible
(Ezekiel - The Strength of God)

So it was, that while they were killing them, I was left
alone; and I fell on my face and cried out, and said,
Ah, Lord God! Will You destroy all the remnant of Israel
in pouring out Your fury on Jerusalem?.
(Ezekiel 9:8)
New King James Version (NKJV)

EZEKIEL is most though of because of his vision of the “wheel in the middle of a will” but he is also know as the prophet/intercessor who saw the spirit of the Lord killing the people of Israel in the temple and in the city streets an he Ezekiel was left alone. “So it was, that while they were killing them, I was left alone; and I fell on my face and cried out, and said, Ah, Lord God! Will You destroy all the remnant of Israel in pouring out Your fury on Jerusalem.” Can you imagine the horror of the prophet as he watch such a vision before his eyes? How would you react to such a sight? Falling to his face he cries out to God for mercy to not to destroy what’s left of the last remaining remnant of Israel.

One cannot phantom such a sight that would evoke such deep sorrow and repentance, for this intercessor. “will you destroy all the remnant of Jerusalem?  Was the question Ezekiel ask the Lord to which He replied, “Then He said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of bloodshed, and the city full of perversity; for they say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see!’ And as for Me also, My eye will neither spare, nor will I have pity, but I will recompense their deeds on their own head.” I love this picture of the Lord God, pronouncing judgment and punishment yet dispensing it with such love and compassion. “Just then, the man clothed with linen, who had the inkhorn at his side, reported back and said, “I have done as You commanded me.

However in the mist of all this God had an angel with an inkhorn in his hand marking those who hand been praying, those who had been grieving over the secret abominations of the people had been performing in the temple and in the streets of Jerusalem. God was saving yet another small remnant of righteous people from destruction. This reminded me of Sodom and Gomorrah and how as few as three were the only survivors’.  Another point that I believe bears closer attention was this judgment fail first upon the house of God and then went out into the streets. “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?we as the people of God must be ready to met the Lord for we barely make it in what will the unsaved do?

So what was the abomination the people had committed?  "The land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness;" or, as in the margin, "wresting of judgment." Cruelty and injustice abounded. They had "filled the land with violence" (Ezekiel 8:17).  But why were they committing these great sin against God?, “Then He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the room of his idols? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.  (Ezekiel 8:12.) The behavior of the people was likened to those who had turn for God to being atheistic, the y were denying the power of God. This is the root of all transgression when men begin to deny the providence of God. God’s only recourse is… “And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity." (Ezekiel 7:4)  "I will recompense their way upon their head." We see a more clearly defined relation of this judgment for their sin in Ezekiel 7:3, 4  Then again in the book of  Obadiah who also declares the same, "As thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon their own heads."

Regardless of how bleak things may have looked Ezekiel continued to pray and intercede for the people, and God did answer his prayers. However, we see that yes we may have the liberty of approaching God concerning any matter of intercession. And even question Him regarding His judgments; even though He will not relent, we still have that freedom before Him. But make no mastake about it God will graciously act in response and answer our request. However, be reminded that it His will that we seek and not our own, therefore the final verdict will be the Lords.

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, as we study the intercession of Ezekiel we are remind that no matter what the intercessory need is you will hear our prayers and give an answer. We also know that you response will still be according to Your divine will and purpose. We know that You Father see the beginning form the ending and we can only see the here and now within our own selves. Give us eyes to see as You see Father and wisdom to comprehend as You do.  Thank You for allowing us to join with you in accomplishing your will in this earth as we learn to see things as You see them.  Thank you Father we pray in Jesus’ name Amen!!!
