#40 “Step 9: Pleading Your Case Before God”

“Listen to what the unjust  judge says. and will not
God bring about justic for His chosen ones,
who cry out to Him day and inght/".”
 Luke 18:6-8
New King James Version (NKJMV)

Now, let’s move on the step #9 where we discuss “Pleading Your Case” before God. What does it mean to plead ones case before God? “Pleading” your case in this instance doesn’t mean you’re begging, moaning and crying for what you want. This is what Jesus taught His disciples, how to not just pray but how to get their prayers answered.  He took them to a level of pray they had never entered into before; right to where God was.  He started with a parable, “In a certain town there was a Judge who neither feared god nor cared about men.” Does it seem just a little strange that the Lord would be telling His disciples to imitate someone who has no regard for God or man? In other words this person could care less about what state you are in, or your situation; would you want to ask this kind of person for anything? I know I wouldn’t!

Why would He use this kind of person in this illustrate on prayer?  Perhaps Jesus want to help them to understand that God answering our prayers has nothing to do with our being good or bad; or Him liking us or our liking Him.  Have you ever negotiated with God by saying, “Lord, if You love me, then please bless me?” Beloved, you must understand that God’s loving us is not the reason He blesses us; there are only two reasons why He does. First it’s because you are qualified; because, of your faith and confidence in His promises and your righteous lifestyle.  Secondly, it’s because He is Holy and cannot lie; because what He will do whatever He has said, because He will only say what He can do. When we realize that the covenant we have with God is a legally binding contract, which contains every provision and protection we need. They’re already included right in the terms of the contract, as His part of the contract.

Then we as intercession as supposed to present the case as thought in council or pleading the covenant terms as in (Ps. 74:20). This is why so many Christians have trouble coming before God; because they can’t see themselves standing before God as an attorney.  However, God welcomes us to do so. As intercessors we must be aware of the spiritual realities surrounding pleading cases before the almighty God. Job said, “I lay my cause before God,” (Job 5:8, 23:4-5) Job said he would order his cause Him and fill his mouth with arguments).  Moses acknowledged that God would defend the cause of the fatherless and the widow (Deut. 10:18).  David stated that,  “God secured justice for the poor and would upholds the cause of the needy (Ps. 140:12). David was confident that God would submit his argument, before his enemy Saul and would decide justly between the two of them, and bring vindication for him.

When it came to us Jesus appointed the Holy Spirit as our Paraclet (comforter, encourager or exhorter) the one which gives support. Therefore He is our legal advisor, our proxy, our advocate, the one that comes forward on our behalf as our representative. This is why Jesus Christ is called our great Intercessory Advocate; He pleads our case before the Father. Now you can see the difference between begging and moaning opposed to stating the far according to God’s word and promises. Which one do you suppose the great judge will hear first, the fact according to the law or your cry fest about how it is so unfair? God only want the legal facts that are what will get the desired results.

My Prayer: Heavenly Father as we resent your causes to you, we acknowledge Your word and promises according to truth. Father honor Your word for Thy word is truth. We thank You for watching over your word to perform it, for You have said that, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.Thank you Father for fulfilling your word in Jesus name Amen!

#39 “Step 8: Securing God’s Promises”

“For no matter how many promises God has Made, they are
“Yes” and “Amen” in Christ. And so through Him the Amen
is spoken by us to the Glory of God.”
 2 Corinthians 1:20
New King James Version (NKJMV)

Now we come to the 8 step which is linked to step 6, “ask and it shall be given” So now you should be in expectation of whatever it is you have asked the Lord for.  Just when as Jesus always asked the person he was ministering to “What do you want me to do for you?”(Matt. 20:32). This way he knew exactly what their need was and there was not guess work involved. God always answers specific requests which are based on His Promises.

Blind Bartimaeus was a blind beggar who sat by the roadside daily begging for money. However once he heard about Jesus and heard that He was coming down the very road he was sitting on he begin call in a loud voice “Jesus, son of David, Have mercy on me!” Jesus heard his Bartimaeus calling Him over the roar of the crowd which was surrounding Him. Why because it was a cry of desperation.  Jesus asked him, what he wanted Him to do for him and Bartimaeus said, “Rabbi, I want to see,” “Go, said Jesus, your faith has healed you.” Bartimaeus was totally healed that day because he asked specifically for what he wanted. Now he was a beggar and no doubt had multiple needs however his greatest need was to receive his sight.  Bartimaeus focused in on one of His most vital needs and Jesus heard his petition for help.

Does this mean that Jesus only heals those who ask for healing? Let’s look at another case in the word of God where the person did not ask Jesus to heal them but received healing just the same. One Sunday Jesus went into the temple and saw a woman who was bent over at the waist and had been in this condition for many years.  When Jesus saw her He called her to come to Him and He laid His hands on her and “immediately she straightened up and praised God.”(Luke 13:13) she was healed.  Why did Jesus heal this woman? Jesus said, “Should not this woman a daughter of Abraham be healed” it was because she had a legal right to be healed because of Abraham. “The Lord will take away from you all sickness.” (Duet. 7:15)  Her healing was part of a promise made to Abraham and Jesus was bound to healing her by the promise His Father had made.

Many times we ask the Father to heal us because we are in pain, and think this will cause Him to act on our behalf. Even though He has compassion upon us for healing us as He demonstrated in (Matthew14:14.)  But the primary reason He heals us is because His words said that, “Healing is the children’s bread” and because “Jesus bore our sickness on the tree and by His strips you are healed.” This God will honor first and foremost.

My Prayer: Father God, thank you for your exceeding and precious promises which you have given unto us. Thank you that you will hasten to perform you word and not allow one word of it fail. We give you praise and honor because you are an awesome God. As we continue to study your word open our eyes and heart to understand that your word is true and whey you say your will do something you will honor your word. Give us the tools we need to be efficient and precise when it comes to praying your word and will into this earth and in the lives of your people. We ask these things in Jesus Name Amen!

#38 “Step 7: Petitions and Requests”

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
 with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
 Philippians 4:6-7
New King James Version (NKJMV)

The next step is to specify your petitions unto God. Prayer is not mumbo jumbo it is very articulate, intentional communication.  Needless to say this is a learned art and can only be perfected by much use. There is nothing that we do in this life that we must not do some level of study, prayer is no different; take the time to study about prayer every chance you get. Practice what you learn immediately and often to become proficient in prayer.

When you come to the father in prayer and petition for the things you need Him to do you have to be sure that the evidence that you’re bring before Him is relevant to the petition you are presenting.  Let’s say that you are in need of peace and then you would not ask Him for bread. If you want peace you must know that He is Jehovah-Shalom (The Lord is our Peace). If you’re needing to receive healing then you must know that He is Jehovah-Rapha (The Lord our Healer); perhaps you’re needing Him to supply your needs, then petition Jehovah-Jireh (The Lord our Provider).  How is that don? Father God, I need you healing touch, your word says that Jesus bore my sickness on the tree, and by His strip I am healed, so father be my Jehovah-Rapha now in Jesus name , Amen.

This is why it is very important to be specific when making your petitions and this is done by acknowledging God by His Name and according His word. If you don’t think you will remember everything then take the time to write it down and read it back to the Lord. The good thing about this is that you will have time to include the scripture reference along with your prayer petition; this will make for a smooth transition in prayer. Then when you pray God will be able to move on your behalf because you have done two important things:

1.       You have addressed Him by His Name according to your specific need. (Exodus 15:26 (KJV) 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.)
2.       You have put Him in remembrance of His word, according to (Isaiah 43:26 (KJV), “Put me in remembrance”.)

Now when you pray for each petition you can have confidence that the Lord will answer and perform His word. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of Him.” (1 John 5:14-15 paraphrased)

My Prayer: Father as we come before You Holy presence we come thanking You for You gracious gift of eternal life and for Your Son Jesus Christ! You are such an awesome God an all powerful, all knowing and everywhere present God, there is nothing done, which is hidden from Your sight. You know our going in and our coming out, You know our beginnings and our endings. We rejoice in knowing that You hold our future in the palm of Your hand and You watch over you promises (Your word) to perform them. Thank You Lord God, for this day and all that is within it, guide us in Your truth for Your word is Truth.  Meet every need that we may stand in need of this morning, grant us the petition which we bring before You this day according to Your word and will. Father we will forever give You the praise for all Your many blessings in Your Son Jesus Christ precious Name, Amen!!

#37 “Step 6: Making Your Supplication”

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition
[“supplication” NKJV], with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6
New International Version (NIV)

Now we come to the sixth step which is “supplication”, the opening scripture say, “Be anxious for nothing,” this statement alone kind of gives us a clue as to what supplication is. When we make supplication we are petitioning God on our own behalf.  “Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.” Psalm 5:8 (ESV) This is something we ourselves need. It’s also why we are admonished to be anxious for nothing, because we often worry about our own personal needs and not for others. I mean, have you ever stayed up all night worrying about your neighbor’s light bill, or how they are going to pay the rent? No? Me either, so this is why we make supplication, it gives us the opportunity to release it into God’s hand once and for all.

Have you ever heard the old saying “go ahead and get it off your chest,” well here’s where you can do just that. This is the place of passionately release, so cry, tell Him all about it, let it all out and hold nothing in. Then when you are done, it should be done, from this point on you should have no need to come this way again. Now you just stand on God’s word and confess it daily until you see it manifested.  Once you have released a situation into God’s Hands, what would you have to worry about? Do you believe God will take care of it? Do you trust Him to work it out? Then there would be no need to keep coming before Him crying and weeping day after day about the same thing…would it? Faith works this way, “You read the Word of God <>You believe the Word of God<> You Stand on the Word of God <> God Perform His Word on your behalf”...it’s that simple!

I’ll have to admit something here, this is the place where I have the most trouble, I’m so accustom to praying for others that I sometimes have difficulty asking God for what I need. I just simply trust Him to take care of me. But there are times when something will weigh heavy on my heart, and then trust me, I well cry and supplicate before the Lord with the best of them. Especially when it is concerning one of my children, then the mother in me kicks in real hard. Or when I step out of my place and try to stand in God’s, you know when I try to “fix it myself” instead of going to Him. This is when I’m quickly reminded that I’m trying to be God and there’s only One God! Then when things come crashing down around my head; I step back and say, “Lord forgive me,” from now on, I’ll do Me and let You do You! When things start to get too hard for you to handle, then this is when you have taken on more than your share. You have started trying to do some of God’s job. Once we learn the difference of what I can do, verses what God can do, we’ll have a much easier time dealing with issues of life.

A time of supplication is generally accompanied with weeping, intense emotions and deep passion during prayer. “And going a little farther He fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26:39 (ESV) Jesus, spent hours in the Garden of Gethsemane, in deep passionate supplication before his crucifixion, only to emerge more convinced to do the Father’s will. This phase of prayer takes you into the first stage of “feeling the heart of God” during your prayer time and it starts with YOU.  Unfortunately most people will stop right here, thinking that prayer is over with; because, they have spent the past five or ten minutes crying and weeping. Supplication is an extremely emotionally overwhelming experience with God; because of this they feel now they’re done and ready to move on with their day. However, this is just the of getting “You” out of the way, so “You” will have no distractions, when “You” begin to intercede for others. It is here, when you’re come out of supplication, that you’re truly ready to intercede for others; because, of the intense level of emotional release you’ve just experienced. You can now channel all of that passionate emotional fervency into interceding for others, in this heighten state of being; you can easily shift into position for intercession. Supplication is birth out of thanksgiving, because your thanksgiving brings God such pleasure that He reveals to you what is in His Heart.

My Prayer: Father, thank You for Your heart of compassion towards us, we thank You, for Your mercy and grace. Father many of us will find it difficult to come to you praying for our own personal needs, while others will know nothing else to pray about. You Lord God know each of our hearts and You can direct us in the paths we must walk in. Father we will not be anxious about anything and we will by everything offer prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving letting our requests be known to You. Thank You for covering us with your peace, which passes all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.  Amen!

#36 “Step 5: Give God Thanks”

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
 I Thessalonians 5:16-18
New International Version (NIV)

Welcome back! As you remember our last lesson was on confessing our sins in God’s presence. This week we start with Step #5 - Giving God Thanks.  I remember having once got into a discussion with a dear brother regarding I Thessalonians 5:16-18. He felt that this scripture was not intended to be taken literally, but rather figuratively. His position was this, “no one who is truly suffering and in pain can continually give God thanks. It would be humanly impossible to do so.”  I understood what he was trying to say but it did not change the fact that it was simply not true, regardless of how hard it may be it’s not impossible.

The word of God tells us to, My friends, be glad, even if you have a lot of trouble. You know that you learn to endure by having your faith tested. But you must learn to endure everything, so that you will be completely mature and not lacking in anything.”(James 1:2)  Why would the Lord tell us to rejoice during our trials and tribulations?  Matthew 5:12 tells us, “Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” And James 1:12 further tells us, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” How could we forget Job? I know, you’re think right about now, “why do they always bring up Job?”  Well for one reason and one reason only… his sufferings were great and painful, yet he still praised God.  But didn’t he complain at some point? Yes, but he rather than curse God he wish that he had not been born.  We have remember we are still in these bodies of flesh and blood and subject to frailties of our human nature.  Job had lost everything and by everything I do mean EVERYTHING! It would even seem that his wife may have left him as well. She said to Job, “Why don’t you just curse God and die?” What was Job’s reply? “Woman you sound like a foolish woman, the Lord gives and The Lord takes away.” We can only ask the Lord to help it be our reply as well. Regardless of what we must endure help us to always remember that there's a greater reward awaiting us over on the other side of our sufferings.

Earlier this year I lost my job, this wasn’t just any job I love working for this company and was working on my second term working for them. I had started there as a part-time receptionist and by the time my hire date had rolled again there was a better position available. I prayed about it and decided to talk with my supervisor about the position. She did everything within her power to try and discourage me from applying  the position.  She almost succeeded, however the Holy Spirit rose up within me and declared, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” I simply told her that if the position was mine then they would not be able to hire anyone else in that position. She of course looked at me strangely, no doubt thinking she was not going to give me the job. Needless to say, I got the position and worked for nine months before they let me go. I could not understand why the Lord would allow this to happen; after all hadn’t the Lord given me the position in the first place! But what did Job say, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away.”

I wish that I could say that I responded immediately like Job did, but that wouldn’t be true. It took me a while, I spent some serious time talking with God, before I could finally say, God this situation is in Your hands. I know that nothing was ever a surprise to God, and when we walk closely with Him neither will it be to us. For you see that morning he Holy Spirit had already alerted me that, “Today is the day.” At first I did not understand what He was telling me but once I arrived at work, all the pieces began to fall into place. Beloved we may not rejoice right away when trial and tribulations come our way. But with everything within us we should begin to tell yourself what God has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you!”  I began to ask God what my next assignment was, and how soon would it start. I continually had to remind myself that God is my “Jehovah Jireh,” my provider; because, I had no unemployment benefits coming and no other source of income.  Count it all joy – we must grow to the place where we can look at our situation as something to rejoice about!! Because, we know God is doing to do something big in and through us.  Too often we start to think that perhaps we’ve done something wrong and God is punishing us for it. But we should not consider trials as some kind of punishment or curse; or some sort of calamity.  Thank God that you are worthy of being tested.

My Prayer: Father as we enter into this 5th phase of coming into Your presence in prayer, we say thank You for all that You have done. We ask you forgiveness for those times when we did not readily embrace our situations as a time of rejoicing. Father, help us to always realize that the trying of our faith or the testing of our faith produces patience.  Lord let patience have its perfect work in us, so that we may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. We realize that they only come to help develops perseverance in us.  Lord God thank You for being an ever loving Father, and teaching us the way we should go, in this life. In Jesus Name  we pray, Amen!

#35 “Step 4: Make Your Confession Known (Pt2)”
“You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.”
- Psalm 51:6-9
New International Version (NIV)

Yesterday we covered Pt1 of Make Your Confession Known, tonight we will conclude this topic tonight. When dealing with confessions I’m always reminded of King David, who was understood the true meaning of confessing to God. Even when he had sinned and though no one was aware of what he had done (like with Bathsheba) the moment Nathan told him that he was the man in his story David quickly repented and acknowledged his sin before the man of God and God Himself. Every since the fall man has been trying to cover up, that which he knows God does not like. We are still trying to find fig leaves large enough to cover our nakedness before God. Beloved there is nothing that will cover our sin, but the blood of Jesus.

While in the presence of God in the secret place of your devotions, God will began to bring to your heart those things which are being exposed in his presence. It is then up to us to deal with them; perhaps it’s unforgiveness against someone or a root of bitterness because of an offence someone has committed. Whatever it is the Holy Spirit will bring them to your remembrance and begin to prompt you to make phone calls, go visit or whatever it takes to make that situation write. You see we cannot come into the presence of a Holy God with cockleburs attached to us and think that He will overlook or not see them. What will happen is this He will make that thing stick us so bad, we want be able to sit comfortable, kneel comfortable or stand in His presence comfortable. This will make us want to get things right, why? Because we long to be in His presence, to enjoy His beauty, and we cannot do that if something is separating our thought from Him or making it uncomfortable to be there.

The good news is this “If we confess our sin He is faithful and just to forgive us...” but He doesn’t stop there, “and cleans us from all unrighteousness.” He is so just, now all we need to do is be truthful and acknowledge that what the Holy Spirit is revealing about us is true and it is sin. Even with all his short comings God still called David, “a man after My own heart.” You see God know David loved Him in spite of his sin, because David had a relationship with God. In fact David’s relationship with God had been since his youth. He knew what pleased God and always tried to do just that.

Let’s take a look at David heart of confession, “Have mercy on me, O God, According to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You and You alone, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.” Notice that David did not say, I have sinned against Uriah or Bathsheba but he said, “against You and You alone, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight.” “This is why You are proven right when you speak and justified when you judge.” Here David is agreeing with God, on what He has revealed to him. And this is what we must do as well. Don’t try to pretend that everything is alright when it’s all wrong.

I recall once when I had a disagreement with a dear friend of mine, I had said something to them that a friend should never say. But that wasn’t the problem; the problem was that I did not correct what I had said. I just ended our conversation and went on my way. But the next morning when I entered into prayer as I usually did, the Holy Spirit checked me at the door, so to speak. I felt so convicted that I picked up the phone that very moment and called them and apologized to them, after which I was able to continue with my prayer. What do you think would have happened if I had not stopped and called my friend? God would have allowed me to go through the motions but there would not have any fruit. I would have walked away from that time of intimacy with the Lord, barren, empty and still hungry for His touch and embrace. This is why we can’t afford to have anything between us and God.

My Prayer: Father God, we come to you acknowledging that you are God alone, there is no other God liken unto you. You all powerful, all know and everywhere present. Thank you for being our councilor, our protector, our redeemer, our salvation. As we come before you Holy Spirit please help us to see those things that would keep us from receiving the full benefit of being in our Father’s presence. Help us not to be like Adam and Eve, or even King David and try to hide our sins. Help us to quickly acknowledge our sins and repent turning away from them. Thank you for helping us to agree quickly with you when you bring these short comings. Thank you Father, for Your loving kindness and grace, in Jesus Christ name we pray Amen!

#34 “Step 3: Make Your Confession Known”
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit,
and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
1 Chronicles 29:11-14
Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Now we enter to the step of making confession. When we hear the word confession we start getting out the list or scroll, of remembrance. However, this is not referring to that kind of confession. This type of confession is when you’re agreeing with God about what He says to you and about you. However, you can’t agree with what God is saying if you don’t hear what He is saying? This is why adoration is so important; because, it brings you into the presence of God.

What else happens when you come into the presence of God? Well let’s see what Isaiah said when he came into the presence of the Lord. “In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a high and lofty throne. The bottom of his robe filled the temple. So I said, “Oh, no! I’m doomed. Every word that passes through my lips is sinful. I live among people with sinful lips. I have seen the king, the LORD of Armies!” at this point you began like Isaiah will start to see yourself, as you are and you will want to change. He said “wow is me I’m undone” he realized that he felt the need to clean-up his life. When the Holy Spirit shows you something in your life that needs you attention then you will acknowledge this area and agree with Him.

Remember the scripture says, “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins." (I John 1:9) this is when we allow the Lord to forgive us because we have acknowledged our sin or short coming and He will forgive us and cleans us from all unrighteousness. And all this started with adoration which leads to spending time in prayer dealing with your personal life.

My Prayer: Father as we enter your presence we give you adoration, and praise, we worship your and give you the glory, for Your mercy. Thank you for your grace. You are the great and awesome God, all powerful and all might. Help us Lord God as we enter your presence to see our condition and long to change in your presence. We surrender our total will to your father mold us and make us after you prefect will according your plan. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

#33 “Step 2: Give Him Adoration”

“Lord, Your power is great, and your glory is seen everywhere in heaven
and on earth. You are king of the entire world, and you rule with
strength and power. You make people rich and powerful and famous.
We thank you, our God, and praise you. But why should we be
happy that we have given you these gifts? They belong to you,
and we have only given back what is already yours.”
1 Chronicles 29:11-14
Contemporary English Version (CEV)

We have all heard the word “adoration” but what does it really mean? The Merriam-Webster dictionary says, “The act of worship a profound love or regard for someone or something. Adoration is a deep love or esteem, worship: a feeling of profound love and admiration. When we enter into a time of pray we move for a position of being “Silent” before the Lord to “Adoring” Him. This is when you tell Him how much He means to you and how precious He is to you. What has the Lord done in your life that would make you want to love and adore Him? Most of could say that He “saved us” and in fact He did just that.

Many times people have trouble when just starting to pray, finding the words to say about the Lord, I always start with the Psalms because most of them are songs created especially for worshiping, praying or adoring God. Let’s take a look at one that I feel will work perfectly for this section of your devotion.

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song.
For the Lord is the great god, the great King above all gods.
In His hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him.
The sea is His, for He made it. And His hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.”
(Psalms 95:1-7)

This is an amazing song of adoration and praise to the Lord. The psalmist admonishes us to come and bow down before the Lord in worship. Why? Because of who He is, He is the God of all creation, King of Heaven and earth. He’s God our savior and redeemer. Once you start just acknowledging who God is, before you know it you are lost in worship and adoration. Perhaps the problem is that many just don’t know who God truly is; therefore they don’t know what to say about Him. Let’s take a look at who He should be to us as children of the Most High God.

1. He’s all Powerful God
2. He’s a Great God
3. He’s a Wonderful Counselor
4. He’s Awesome God
5. He’s Omnipotent
6. He’s Glorious
7. He’s Marvelous
8. He’s Matchless in all His ways

This should be enough to get you started, in fact, take some time and look up these attributes of God and learn more about Him. Once we understand and acknowledge that He is God above everything, situation, circumstance and everyone in our lives, it will be much easier for us to worship and adore Him. Do you not know that everything in heaven and on earth receives it meaning and purpose for God alone. No one is wiser than our God no one is more powerful than our God and is eternal and forever the Great God. When we realize that we are helpless without the help of God, then we can freely and clearly worship and adore Him for hew He is.

My Prayer: Father God we thank you for being such a wonderful and faithful God. Your faithfulness is never ending, Praise, honor and Glory belongs to You. Lord God, You’re our Heavenly Father, from everlasting to everlasting. You Lord, are the greatness and the power, the glory, the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom, You’re exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from You Lord God, You are the ruler of all things; Father, in Your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give You thanks, and praise Your glorious name forever. Amen!

#32“Intercessors: Stair Steps to Prayer”

“Jesus said, when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to
your father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who is sees what is done
in secret, will reward you, openly"
(John 5:16-17)
J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)

I have noticed that so many Christians are more comfortable with praying in a group than doing so alone, why? Because, when praying in a group they don’t have to take responsibility for praying as they would when praying alone. As a result they may not pray unless they are in corporate prayer. There is nothing wrong with praying corporately however it should not become a replacement for personal devotions and prayer before the Lord. Why? It is when we spend time with the Father that we become familiar with who He is, the sound of His voice and the desires of His heart. When we pray corporately there is no personal intimacy with the Lord. This is why we must spend time with the Father alone, it helps to drown out all other voices, allowing us to hear His alone.

Over the past weeks we have covered various aspects of what is required to get into God presence. Keep in mind that this is a process and we get better with repartition, remember what the piano teacher use to say, “Practice makes Perfect,” well daily devotion, meditation and prayer is the essence of Practicing to become Perfect. It may require you to take a systematic approach to your daily pray time. Once you learn the steps you will simple follow these steps and it will make it easier for you to pray regularly.

The first thing you most remember is to come before the Lord in silence. This is probably one of the most difficult things we have to do because we are not accustomed to sitting for any length of time in silence. Please be prepared to be bombarded with thoughts and plan you need to do or have not done. Why? Because we just are not creatures designed to sit in silence; therefore this in essence has to become a discipline just like the discipline of Prayer. It is important that we learn to sit still in the Lords presence just as we must learn how to worship and praise Him.

In Matthew 6:6 Jesus said, “when you pray go into your prayer room and close the door.” That means turn off the phones radio, computer or anything that could disrupt the setting of the room. Gather your thoughts your attention, your concentration and you focus, pull your whole being into one accord, then you are ready to the next step, which we will cover tomorrow, see you then.

My prayer: Father, teach us to wait before you in the silences, shutting out all of the noise and confusion of life. Teach us to quite our thoughts our hearts and fears. As we prepare ourselves to enter you throne room we want our hearts on one accord with yours. In Jesus name we pray Amen!

Have A Bless Day…go in God’s Peace!

#31 “Intercessors: Are Always On Call 24/7”

“But Jesus’ answer to them was this, “My Father is still
at work and therefore I work as well.”
(John 5:16-17)
J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)

When we think of working we think 8-4 or 9-5 work schedules. We cannot comprehend working 24/7, 365-days a year; many of us, would no doubt quit that kind of job. We are not humanly capable of sustaining that type of work load in these natural bodies. Jesus in replying to criticism regarding His healing the man on the Sabbath s imply told them that the Father in Heaven is always working and so too was He Monday through Sunday. We as intercessor are always on call from heaven. The Holy Spirit may wake you at any time day or night with a prayer assignment and we must be willing to take the call. I know many people who will turn their phones off after a certain hour of the night so as not to be disturbed, I too have done this when I had an early call to work or was exhausted and need to get some uninterrupted rest. However the Holy Spirit does not use conventional methods for contacting us when He needs us to cover some situation.

I can recall numerous times when I was waken in the wee hours of the morning and drawn into intercession, for what I did not know. All I know is that the spirit of intercession awakened me from a deep sleep with an overwhelming desire to get on my face before God and pray. Once there it wasn’t long before I was interceding for someone, some of which I did not know. Often this is intense intercession which would leave me drained and weary, it would require all my remaining strength just to crawl back into bed. Once in bed I would fall into a deep revitalizing sleep, which would seem to last all of 6-7 hours; but in fact would sometimes only be 1-2 hours, but I would weaken felling so rested, one would scarcely believe I had been awaken at 2am and prayed intensely for 1 ½ hours.

Unfortunantly intercessory pray does not have a 9-5 timestamp attached to it. One never knows when someone’s life will be hanging in the balance and require an intercessor to fight for them; whether in the ER or on an abandon street at 3am in the morning. When these things happen the Spirit of God will began to search for an intercessor to stand in the gap. However many times even when the Holy Spirit tugs at us to awaken, our response is to just simply roll over and continue sleeping. He has to begins His search again until He finds one who is willing to head the call. “I looked for someone to stand up for me against all this, to repair the defenses of the city, to take a stand for me and stand in the gap to protect this land so I wouldn’t have to destroy it. I couldn’t find anyone. Not one."Ezekiel 22:30a

I remember an event that took place late one evening, many years ago. As it was my custom to rise early and spend time before the Lord each morning, this particular morning was no different. The day went according to schedule and seemingly was uneventful. I remember that I needed to pick up something at the grocery store, so I stopped and the neighborhood grocer's before heading home. once at the checkout was getting ready to pay the cashier, when suddenly this strong sense of fear came over me; it was so strong that my hands began to tremble. I remember thinking that the cashier was going to think something was wrong; or perhaps I was writing a bogus check. I couldn't figure out what was going on, but I know to start praying. I managed to pay the cashier and although still week and trembling left the store. This feeling of fear stay on me until I reached home, but I still didn't know what it was for. Later that even I went to visit a friend in the apartment complex I lived in. While there one of her friends who lived in the same complex came and told her that her husband had jumped on her and she want my friend to come go back with her so she could get some things. and leave. So the three of us went back to her apartment.

He was not there when we arrived so she quickly started getting her things, but he returned before we could leave. He was very upset about our being there, and started threating us and her saying he would kill her and us. Then he pulled a gun on us, or should I say me because at this point I was the only one contesting him. All of a sudden a boldness rose up in me and I told him she was leaving with us and he was not going to stop us. He made some more threats but saw that I was not afraid and said, " fine than get out of my house all three of you," and we quickly left the apartment.  Once outside the lady went with my friend and I started across the street to go home. the moment my foot touch the street pavement, that same spirit of fear came over me again, just as intense as it was earlier that day. It was then I understood what had happen in the grocery store. The Holy Spirit was warning me about what was going to happen which caused me to immediately start praying in the spirit because I didn't know what was going to happen. No doubt if I had not prayed and interceded for the situation things would have turned out much worse and tragic. This is why when the Holy Spirit moves on you to pray you must do as He will, for you don't know who's life you might be saving...even your own.

We never know how serious a situation is when we are called upon to pray by the Holy Spirit, but know this if He is awakening you, its pretty serious. Otherwise He would not call upon you. It is really hard to resist the natural desire to not get up and pray during the time when we should be sleeping. "For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His." But keep in mind that the Holy Spirit choose you for a reason, perhaps you have a special gifting or authority in the area of need; therefore, you are the one for the assignment. Jesus had a special authority in the area of need regarding our salvation and redemption; this is why He could endure the cross. You will be able to endure as well, when you are called upon for a special assignment to intercede by the Holy Spirit. Just know that as intercessors we always on call, day or night, just as the Lord is ever working.

My Prayer: Father as we take up the mantle as intercessors helps us to always be available when You call upon us. Help us to take serious the call to pray for the souls of men and women everywhere. Give us the endurance and understand that when You call on us in the middle of the night you will renew our strength for the next day. We thank You for giving using us as intercessor to effect the lives and situation of in this earth. Let our hearts be touched by the things, which touch Your heart, let our eyes weep over the things that make You weep. Cause us to become passionate about seeing souls come to salvation. These things we ask in Jesus name, Amen

#30 “Intercessors: Learning to Live in Reality”

“And the scripture says:”Whoever believes on him will not be put to shame”.
And that “whoever” means anyone, without distinction between Jew or Greek.
For all have the same Lord, whose boundless resources are available to all
who turn to him in faith. For:“Whoever calls upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved.”
(Romans 10:110-13)
J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)

So lets talk about how one can continue believing the word. In the last two teachings we talked about “Cultivating the God Kind of Faith and Being Planted in the Word.” Just seeing these two topic makes me think of gardening which by the way I’m terrible at; but I do have one very blessed and forgiving Peace Lilly. And I do mean “Blessed” because if it weren’t I would not have this plant. I can’t even begin to count the number of times; I’ve forgotten to water this poor plant. Nevertheless, each time I give it water it springs back to life. Once I went to visit my mother and forgot to water it and when I returned home there were noting but stems and a few wimpy leaves left on it. I just knew I had once and for all killed it; but in spite what it looked like I still gave it water and some extra TLC. Within a month or two it was looking full and green again; I was amazed because that had to be God restoring life to this little plant.

We too are just like plants, and when we are deprived of water, we begin to whether up and die. The good news is that once we are given the water we so desperately need to survive we perk right back up again- becoming full and health again. In fact you would think that being deprived of life giving water (word), would stunt our growth; however, like my little plant, once we are restored to healthiness we will begin to produce again. I’m always amazed that this little plant still blooms once or twice per year. This is much like the two trees in our previous two teachings; one was planted by the wayside, while the other was planted by the streams of water (word). Based on where they were planted they both produced different results in their season of harvest. We too will produce a different kind of results when we are not planted by a consistent stream of water (word), to give us nourishment.

So how does one live in “reality” and what does this mean? Some of the prayers you have prayed may have still not manifested. It’s not because something is wrong; rather because it’s not their season. In the book of Ecclesiastes 3:1it say, “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted, A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up, A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, A time to get and a time to lose, a time to keep and a time to cast away, A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak, A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.” Everything has its appointed time to be fulfilled because of this we sometime feel that God did not answer our prayer. It’s important that we stay surrounded by with people, places and thing that are speak the word of God continually. The more we hear, sees, and say and the word of God the more it begins to transform our minds causing us to walk in the truth we hear, see and say. Then we will walk in a peace and assurance that God is working all things out for our good. We must be confident that what we believe God for will come to pass.

Once you have planted the seed of the word you need to wait for the manifestation or fruit of that word. Though we pray and ask God to move on the behalf of others and even ourselves; we must remember that everything has an appointed time. Do you know that not Jesus could come before His appointed time? Let’s look at what Galatians 4:4-5 - So is it with us: while we were “children” we lived under the authority of basic moral principles. But when the proper time came God sent his son, born of a human mother and born under the jurisdiction of the Law, that he might redeem those who were under the authority of the Law and lead us into becoming, by adoption, true sons of God. So is it with us: while we were “children” we lived under the authority of basic moral principles. But when the proper time came God sent his son, born of a human mother and born under the jurisdiction of the Law, that he might redeem those who were under the authority of the Law and lead us into becoming, by adoption, true sons of God.” You see God had already set a time for Christ, to be born into this world; therefore, it’s always important for us to pray the will of the Father. Knowing that nothing we ask Him for is a surprise to Him and He already has plans to give it to us at an appointed time. This will help us to not become discourage when it doesn’t happen instantaneously. “Yes, but I’ve been waiting twenty years…well we waited for Christ four hundred years for Christ to be born, so what’s twenty years in comparison to four hundred?

Keep in mind that our, “faith is the substance, of things hoped for ; the evidence of things not yet seen.” Living in the reality of our faith, means understanding the faith we have in God, that we’re certain of what we believe, even though we cannot see it. We can’t afford to listen to anyone or anything, which speaks contrary to what the word says and what we believe for. Let’s look at how Jesus handled this situation in His life. “From that time on, Jesus began to explain to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law. And that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke Him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “this shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.

Although people can be well meaning, they may not know and understand the plans and purpose of God for your life. Peter loved Jesus and did not want to believe that anything bad like that could happen to Him. However, Peter was not seeing the plan of God to redeem mankind. He only saw his desire to keep Jesus with him and the other disciples. Remember Satan is the voice, that comes to contradicts the voice or words of God, that we speaking and hearing. We must continue to speak faith and the goodness of God, “call that He has done and is doing and will do. Remind yourself that our God will fulfill His promises and will cause those things, which are not as though they were.” (Romans 4:17)

My Prayer: today Father we thank you for you word which is alive and has the power to transform our thinking and our lives. Thank you for Your Son Jesus the word fulfilled. Father as we learn to “live in the Reality of our faith and prayers, give us a deeper revelation into you words of faith. We understand that not everyone will believe your word, but in order to receive the things we ask for we must not allow anything or anybody to contradict what Your words says to us, about us and for us. We understand that man does not always look to the things of the Father; therefore we will not allow their words to sway us from believing You will do what you promised. We will cultivate our God like Faith, during our prayer time and throughout the day. We will be like that tree planted by the streams of water (word) and we will bring forth our fruit in its season. We will make sure we drink in plenty of the water of the word that we can be nourishment for others we encounter that are hungry. Father God bring us to maturity in your word, You word is truth! Thank you Father for all your many blessings in Jesus’ name Amen!

#29 “Intercessors: Planted In The Word”
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates
day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall
not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”
(Psalms 1:1-3)
New International Version (NIV)

When talking about cultivating the faith of God, we’ve covered the importance of believing in your heart what you speak from your mouth. It is by our faith which we confess that we are saved, likewise it is by our faith that we are given those thing we pray for. One of the greatest challenges to our faith is not the enemy but we, ourselves. Why is this? All too often we pray with such intensity about a matter only to turn around and the contradict what we have just prayed. Remember that it is by our faith that we have what we say; therefore, we must be ever so careful about what comes out of our mouths. We can’t say that we believe God for the salvation of our son or daughter and then turn right around and start declaring negatively about their lifestyle. Either you believe that God will save and deliver them or you don’t, there’s not startling the fence. Either you believe that God is going to heal, deliver and set free or you don’t. God like faith sees the solution before its manifested. You have to see that thing happening, see that child set free, delivered and made whole, then you will have it.

Our scripture passage say, “blessed is the person who trust in the Lord, he shall be like a tree planted rivers of water, that bring forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” When we walk in the God Kind of Faith, we will have confidence that what we speak will come to pass, therefore we have no reason not to trust God. Thus we put our complete, total trust in His word, then we will be, “ like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season,” unlike the fig tree in yesterdays lesson who was clearly not planted by a river of water, because it did not bring forth its fruit in the season. What does the scripture mean by “river of water?” In the word of God when you see the water it often times symbolizes “The Word of God.” Ephesians 5:27 says, “Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish”

Here in this passage we have another tree, which I suppose could represent two types of Christians the first looked the part dressed the part and from a far off could not be distinguished from the fruitful and productive Christian; that is until you got up close and realized there was not fruits of the spirit on it. This tree was also planted by the wayside, perhaps this is one of the reasons there was not edible fruit there, due to no valid water source. The second one we find planted by the (river) steams of water and it not only has fruit but it’s leaves will not wither because its being nourished from the rich soil and ample water supply. When we as Christians find ourselves away for a valid stream of water (daily study of God word) we become barren and incapable of producing that will nourish and sustain ourselves and others. On the other hand, when we stay in the Word of God and “study to show ourselves approved unto God,” We will a healthy fruit barring tree before the Lord fit for anyone to satisfy their hunger from.

When we are planted by the word, we receive all the nutrients we need to reap a bountiful harvest. We will have boldness and confidence to say what God says and stand on it until we see it manifested before our eyes. When we go through trials and tribulation we sometimes become embarrassed think what will people think because I’m supposed to be this great intercessor? If that is true then why am I going through this? Jesus said, “in the world you will have trouble but be of good courage for I have overcome the world.” If you are believing God to bring you out and supply all your needs by His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus” then no matter how bad it gets or looks, hold on to God’s unchanging hand!! King Solomon said, “Never have I seen the righteous forsaken not their seed beg for bread.”

My Prayer: Father, thank you for your graciousness and mercifulness. Thank you that we long to be like David in the Psalms 1: 1-3 we want to walk in the God kind of faith, live in the God kind of Faith, we want to be confident in the God kind of Faith knowing that whatever we say according to your word, You will hear us and answer. Father, help us not to be the fig tree which had no evidence of fruitfulness and was cursed by You. We want to be planted in your word and have our roots grown down deep in Your word. Lord Jesus give us clear direction as to how to help others become strong and fruitful. We thank you that as we share our fruit with others they too will grow up strong and nourished. These things we ask in Jesus name, Amen!!

#28 “Intercessors: Cultivating God Like Faith”

“Whosoever shall say, to this mountain be thou removed and cast
into the sea and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things,
which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said”
(Mark 11:23)
New International Version (NIV)

What is the God kind of faith? What does it mean to cultivate the God kind of faith? What are the prerequisites for having God Like Faith? The first prerequisite is, we must believe in our heart. Lastly we must believe what we say’s. Why isn’t just believing in our hearts sufficient, if we want God to move on our behalf; it requires our using our mouth to speak what is believed in our heart. “If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart…you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) Jesus said, “Whoever shall say… and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass’ he shall have whatsoever he says. (Mark 11:23) We must come to realize this fact is an unchangeable law of faith.

"And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: and seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, no men eat fruit of you hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it. And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And peter calling to remembrance said unto him, master, behold, the fig tree which thou curses is withered away. And Jesus answering said; unto them have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said. Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever ye desire, when ye pay, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."

In this passage Jesus admonishes His disciples to, “Have Faith in God,” which really means to “Have the faith of God” some Greek scholars believe that it should be translated, “Have the God Kind of faith.” Either way we get a clear picture that this kind of faith is, preferred if you want God to act on our behalf. While Jesus and His disciples were quite some distance away He could see this fig tree in the distance with full and vibrant foliage. However closer examination revealed that there were no figs just leaves. Let me state something here for the record, in this region the fig had a season for fruitfulness just as any other fruit tree. It was customary for the tree to bloom and turn green during the time of the fig. It appears that Jesus and His disciples were arriving just before Passover, possibly six week prior, which would have made it too soon for fully-formed figs to be on the tree. What usually happens is as the leaves bloom on a fig tree, (which happens right around late March) there appears also some small knobs (buds), known as (Taqsh) in Arabic. These Taqsh are like mini fig fruit; although, not the actual fig itself and can be eaten by passersby or local peasants if hungry.

The Taqsh generally fall off prior to the appearance of the real fruit being formed. The other interesting fact is this, should the leaves bloom void of the Taqsh, it was an indication no figs will be produced that year. So in essence the Lord was not looking for full-grown fruit on the fig tree, He was looking for the evidence of fruitfulness. How many of us are walking around lacking the evidence of fruitfulness in our Christian lives? He knew that there should have been some Taqsh somewhere on the branches; however finding no Taqsh to satisfy His hunger was an indicated there would be no figs when the time for harvest arrived. In spite of looking like a beautiful healthy and productive fig tree it was fruitless and therefore hopeless for providing substance or nourishment for anyone that year. This is when Jesus cursed the tree saying, “Jesus said unto it, no men eat fruit of you hereafter forever.” The day on their return back the disciples noticed that the fig tree was withered and dried up from the roots and they were astounded. Here is when Jesus said, “Have faith in God or Have the God kind of faith” truly I tell you that whoever will say to this mountain, be removed and be cast into the sea; and will not doubt in his heart, but will believe that what he has said will come to pass; he will have whatever he says.” will have his hearts desire."

What are some other instances when Jesus operated in the God Kind of Faith? You name it, He did it… He walked on water, He opened blinded eyes, healed the sick feed five thousand…the list goes on and on. The God kind of faith is the kind of faith in which we believe with our heart and says with our mouth that which we believe in our hearts, and it will comes to pass. This is the kind of faith that spoke the world into existence. “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” ( Hebrews 11:3) How did God do this? Simple, He believed that what He said would come to pass. He spoke the word and there was an earth. He spoke into existence the vegetable kingdom. He spoke into existence the animal kingdom. He spoke into existence the heavens as well as the earth, the moon, the sun, the stars and the universe. He said it and it was so. That is the God kind of faith. He believed what He said would come to pass and it did.

My Prayer: Father we thank You for helping us to cultivate God like faith in our time of devotion and intercession,. Your word says, "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,' that is, the word of faith." (Romans 10:8) We thank You that when we speak Your word we speak Your very heart and will, therefore we will speak the word over our lives and our country and this world. This morning we place our trust not upon man and what he can do but in You Lord God and You alone. Father we will pray with "God Like Faith" You spoke and it was so, by Your word the earth was formed, so we too speak Your word and believe it shall be so! Father You said, “So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.” (Isaiah 55:11) Forgive us this morning, for times when we prayed only selfish prayers; focusing only on our needs and desires, instead of applying Your word to the situation and conditions of this world. Don't let is be furitless christian, barring no fruit nor evidence of fruitfullness. Today we take Your word into our hearts and will live by them, trusting that they will perform that, which you have sent them to do. Now Father, continue to open up to us the truth of Your word as we place our undivided trust on You alone. We ask these things in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen
