#70 “Great Intercessor of the Bible
(Moses - Drawn Out of the Water)

Moses tried to calm his God down. He said,
“Why, God, would you lose your temper with your people?
Why? After You brought them out of Egypt in a tremendous
demonstration of power and strength."
(Exodus 32:11-13)
The Message (MSG)

As we’ve learned in previous lessons God is always looking for intercessors, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.Ezekiel 22:30 (NKJV) Then just as it is now there is a great need for selfless, committed intercessors in the land. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!Isaiah 6:8 (NIV) as you may recall from or lessons God can’t just intervene into the affairs of the earth, He requires permission or authorization for man, that’s where we come in, and through our intercession we give God legal rights to have His will here on earth.  The trouble is will He find someone faithful enough to stand in the gap for the fate of this world and mankind?

We discussed in yesterday’s lesson how Abraham, in spite their wickedness interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah, before the Lord. Why did Abraham press God so hard about what it would take to spare these two wicked cities? There were a couple reasons one was that His nephew Lot lived there, the other I believe was because he know the heart of God and that if He truly wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah He would not have to come all the way to earth in order to do it.  Even in this gesture we see God’s compassion and mercy, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”  2 Peter 3:1-9 (NJKV)

This morning we will take a look at another great Bible intercessor, that is, ‘Moses’ who delivered his people Israel from the land of Egypt and the slavery of the Pharaoh. It wasn’t easy but God finally convinced Pharaoh to let His people go but it came at a high price, because many Egyptians, livestock, and land were destroyed before Pharaoh would release them. In fact it wasn’t until Pharaoh’s very own son had died that he agreed to let them leave Egypt.

Just as the Lord had said when they left Egypt they would not leave empty handed.  Every woman will ask her neighbor and the one who happens to be staying in her house for items of silver and gold and for clothing. You will put these articles on your sons and daughters—thus you will plunder Egypt! Exodus 3:22 (NIV) They left richer than when they arrived four hundred years earlier. I believe that they were richer than even they themselves knew; because they had seen with their very own eyes the awesome power of their God at work on their behalf.

Now they were free and head to a land they did not know, even with all that God had done to gain their freedom they still did not trust Him to be able to protect, keep and provide for them. It was because of this very fact that Moses has found a place among our great bible intercessors today. “Moses tried to calm his God down. He said, “Why, God, would you lose your temper with your people? Why, you brought them out of Egypt in a tremendous demonstration of power and strength. Why let the Egyptians say, ‘He had it in for them—he brought them out so he could kill them in the mountains, wipe them right off the face of the Earth.’ Stop your anger. Think twice about bringing evil against your people! Think of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants to whom you gave your word, telling them ‘I will give you many children, as many as the stars in the sky, and I’ll give this land to your children as their land forever.” Exodus 32:11-13 (NIV)

Now here stands Moses just as Abraham did standing between God and the people interceding for their lives.  Notice how Moses reasons with God and on what grounds does he take his defense position before God.  God why would you do such a thing as this, after you have brought these Your people out of Egypt by such a strong and mighty hand with such tremendous demonstration of Your great power and strength? Now will you through it all away and allow these Egyptian to say, “Their God brought them out only so that He could kill them off in the mountains destroying the very memory of them off the face of the earth.” And what about Your promise to Abraham, Isaac and Israel, Your servants, You gave them Your word!” Abraham was able to get God to relent and not destroy the people by simply putting Him in remembrance of His Word (Promise) to His servants.

There is something here I would like to take a closer look at; God was so angry at the people that He was planning to destroy them all every last one of them and Make a great nation out of Moses instead.  9-10 God said to Moses, “I look at this people—oh! what a stubborn, hard-headed people! Let me alone now, give my anger free reign to burst into flames and incinerate them. But I’ll make a great nation out of you.” (Exodus 32:9-10) Do you understand what this would have meant for Moses?

©       No more murmuring and complaining
©       No more stubborn and rebellious people to contend with
©       No more being in charge of this great massive group of people he could go home and live
his life in peace with His wife and sons.
©       No more having to pray for water when they are thirsty,
©       No more having to pray for food when they want something different to eat.

Yet Moses chooses to stand in their defense before the Almighty God, in an effort to get God to change His mind. This is the mark of a true intercessor, giving no thought to personal gain or sacrifice, only thinking of the souls, which would be lost.  The amazing thing about all of this is that after all of his interceding not only did that generation of Israelites miss out on the promise land, but because of them Moses himself missed out as well. But he didn’t miss out on getting a chance to see the promise, and then God brought him home to live with Him.

In conclusion, let us remember that as intercessor our first and foremost concern must be for the souls we intercede for.  After all isn’t this exactly what Jesus or Lord and Savior did when He came down to earth to die for the sins of the world?

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, as we study the life of Moses You servant we see you word being manifested right before our eyes. “Put Me in remembrance; Let us contend together; State your case, that you may be acquitted.” Help us to do as You have said in Isaiah 43:26 “Put Me in Remembrance…” we will know your word and your promises and hold them up before you knowing that you will fulfill your word. Just as you kept your promises to Abraham, Isaac and Israel You will keep your promises to us. Thank you Father we pray in Jesus’ name Amen!!!

#89 “Great Intercessors of the Bible
(Abraham - Father of Many)

God continued, “The cries of the victims in
Sodom and Gomorrah are deafening;
the sin of those cities is immense.
I’m going down to see for myself,
see if what they’re doing
is as bad as it sounds."
(Genesis 18:20-33)
The Message (MSG)

Now that you understand the role of an intercessor let’s take a look at some great bible intercessor.  Many of us are familiar with Jesus as we have talked about His role as our High Priest and Intercessor; however He was not the only great intercessor in the bible. Over the next several weeks we will be taking a closer look at these amazing biblical intercessors.  What I have come to realize is that many people who are powerful intercessors, just don’t realize who they are, yet they are walking in the role of an intercessor just the same.  It is my hope that while covering these biblical intercessors you will see even yourself and begin to see how the Lord has been using you as well.

We will start this series off with one of my favorite that is Abraham.  You may recall how the Lord God called Abram and told him to leave his father’s house and his relatives and go to a place which He the Lord would show him. God told Abram: “Leave your country, your family, and your father’s home for a land that I will show you.  I’ll make you a great nation and bless you. I’ll make you famous; you’ll be a blessing. I’ll bless those who bless you; those who curse you I’ll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through you.

So Abram left just as God said, and Lot left with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Abram took his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot with him, along with all the possessions and people they had gotten in Haran, and set out for the land of Canaan and arrived safe and sound. Genesis 12:1-6  (MSG)

Now Abram had taken his nephew Lot along with him and in a way was being disobedient because the Lord told him to leave his father’s house and his relatives. But Abram felt an obligation to Lot his brother’s son, because his father Abram’s brother was dead. So the Lord permitted him to take Lot along. Abram’s disobedience later became a source of trouble for Abram; because, on a number of occasions Abram had to intervene on the behalf of Lot to save his live.  Tonight we will deal with one of those instances, of intervention.

The men set out for Sodom, but Abraham stood in God’s path, blocking his way. Abraham confronted him, “Are you serious? Are you planning on getting rid of the good people right along with the bad? What if there are fifty decent people left in the city; will you lump the good with the bad and get rid of the lot? Wouldn’t you spare the city for the sake of those fifty innocents? I can’t believe you’d do that, kill off the good and the bad alike as if there were no difference between them. Doesn’t the Judge of the entire Earth judge with justice?” God said, “If I find fifty decent people in the city of Sodom, I’ll spare the place just for them.”  Abraham came back, “Do I, a mere mortal made from a handful of dirt, dare open my mouth again to my Master? What if the fifty fall short by five—would you destroy the city because of those missing five?”

He said, “I won’t destroy it if there are forty-five.” Abraham spoke up again, “What if you only find forty?” “Neither will I destroy it if for forty.” He said, “Master, don’t be irritated with me, but what if only thirty are found?”, “No, I won’t do it if I find thirty.” He pushed on, “I know I’m trying your patience, Master, but how about for twenty?” “I won’t destroy it for twenty.” He wouldn’t quit, “Don’t get angry, Master—this is the last time. What if you only come up with ten?”, “For the sake of only ten, I won’t destroy the city.” When God finished talking with Abraham, he left. And Abraham went home." (Genesis 18:22-32)

Let me say that many of us would not have ventured to press God quite as hard as Abraham however when so many lives are at stake one will press further than normal, especially if one of your loved ones live in the affected area. Yes, Abraham was concerned about the lost souls in Sodom and Gomorrah but he was more concerned about Lot’s safety and that of Lot’s family. As intercessor’s we must know the heart of God concerning man, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”  Abraham knew that the Lord was not swift to exact judgment upon mankind, and if He had come all the way down to earth to see what was going on within these two cities, you must know it was not His judgment which brought Him down.  This is why Abraham could press God so regarding these two cities, he know that God was looking for an excuse to relent.

God assured Abraham that if there were five righteous people; between, the two of these towns He would not destroy them. However He could not find any save Lot, his wife and two daughters, only one shy of the number which would stay the execution.  When there is something you are praying for and the situation is grave you must not relent in asking the Father to intervene an save and deliver just as Abraham did, even if it is with fear (reverence) and trembling, before the Lord.

My Prayer: heavenly Father, have mercy upon us your people and this world around us. Give us the hearts of true intercessor so that like Abraham we would even dare to press you further on behalf of the souls which are dying daily. Deliver their souls from destruction, turn them for their wicked ways save them from their sins. We pray in Jesus’ name Amen!!!

88 “Wait in Prayer, for the Promise
By common consent all these men together with the women
who had followed Jesus, Mary His mother as well as His brothers
devoted themselves to prayer."
(Acts 1:12-14)
J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)

Waiting, one of the most challenging things I believe we as Christians must do. However everything around us in society demands we wait… checkout lines, fast food drive thru, government or municipal offices, customer services whether in person or by phone. Yet when it comes to God most feel we shouldn’t have to wait, because we are dealing with God Himself.  However one of the last things Jesus told His disciples before ascending to heaven was to wait. “Wait for the promise of the Father.” Wait! Hum it seems that waiting is something we’re going to have to do whether we liked it or not. But the question is what are we waiting on? As intercessor we are often reminded that our answers to prayer doesn’t hinge on our desires or even our time frame, but those of the Fathers. When we pray we know that everything is according to the will of the Father, and in His timing He will answer our prayer.  But when the proper time came God sent his son, born of a human mother and born under the jurisdiction of the Law, that he might redeem those who were under the authority of the Law and lead us into becoming, by adoption, true sons of God.” (Galatians 4:4)

So what are we waiting for? We’re waiting on God’s divine timing for the promise to manifest. The disciples were told four things that would require their faith in Christ to be activated in order to stand still and wait. What were they waiting for:
  • “Wait for the promise of the Father.”
  •  “You will receive power after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you.”
  •  “You will be witnesses unto Me.”
  • “Both In Jerusalem and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
These four statements are the essence of what it means to be an intercessor and disciple of Christ. That is unity in continuous prayer, the gift of the Holy Spirit and power, becoming living testimonies of the risen Christ, in every City, Town, State and Nation in the world. This is the gospel the true mission of the church.

What Jesus established prior to leaving this earth was a united body of unceasing prayerful witnesses; who were filled with power and the Holy Spirit. They would be eye witnesses to the living Christ and carry that message the ends of the earth and every creature. This was the church Christ promised would be founded upon the rock of Peter’s testimony, “You are the Christ Son of The Living God.” Upon this truth we are to continue in pray and supplication in one accord or knitted together by the Love of Christ for us. It is this oneness which gives us power and authority in heaven with God and men on earth.

What’s our greatest challenge today, patience… we hate to wait for anything. Someone once said that we were an “instant coffee generation” everything in our society demand “FASTER”, cars computer, people’s productivity, cell phones…you name it we want it faster and faster. We don’t want to have to wait! Why? Because we have equated, “time with money and money is time.” I’m not sure but perhaps this phrase has been coined from a famous quote by (“time is money”, a phrase used by Benjamin Franklin in Advice to a Young Tradesman, Written by an Old One, see opportunity cost)  Nevertheless it has become the driving force behind our workforce today, if you’re not able to keep up, you’ll be kicked out.

How then do we learn to wait on God when everything around us is moving at 4G speed? But let us not forget that, they who wait upon the Lord will get new strength. They will rise up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weak.” Our one responsibility is to wait in unceasing prayer for the promise that God will answer our prayers; but what guarantee  were we given that the Father would in fact answer… the Holy Spirit! All we need do is continue to pray the will of the Father to be done in this earth and then wait for it to be manifested.  It will be manifested!! We as the church will remain the conquring force God intended for us to be if we maintain our faith in His word.

We cannot allow this worlds influence to dissuade us from walking in our mission here upon the earth, to pray the will of the Father “be done in earth even as it is in heaven.” We must not be wavering in our prayer lives and to our mission to reach nations of this world.

My Prayer: heavenly Father, have mercy upon Your people and Your church, fill us with the Spirit of prayer and supplication just like You did with the disciple and the believers of old. You have given us power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the powers of the enemy…now help us to walk in that power and authority with boldness. Father we call forth all the intercessor, which You have ordained for this time and season raise them up a might army; bring them out their places of complacency and lethargy.  Break the hold of the enemy that blocks your people for advancing in Your Kingdom purpose. We pray in Jesus’ name Amen!!!

#87 “Intercession for Transgressors”

“He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because He bare the sin of many and made
intercession for the transgressors."
(Isaiah 53: 12)
The Message (MSG)

Ye that are the Lord's remembrances take no rest and give Him no rest, till He make Jerusalem a  praise in the earth." (Isaiah 62: 6-7)  This is the task which the Lord has set before us His children that we would not cease for lifting up petitions to heaven until He has done what He has promised. It doesn’t matter which promise it is that you’re standing in prayer for as long as it is on God Himself has made. Then you can put Him in remembrance of what He has promised. As intercessors we stand in the stead of the transgressors that God might remember His promise towards the lost. “Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?(Ezekiel 33:11) When we intercede we must keep in mind that God desires that every soul be delivered and every transgressor turns form his wickedness and be saved.

Oh the immeasurable grace to have the privilege to stand in agreement with the Father interceding for the need of others! What a blessing, in close unification with Christ, taking an active role in His work as mankind’s Great Intercessor joining our prayers with His! “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:5)  We have been given the honor and privilege of have authority with God over lost souls obtaining for them things they know nothing about their very essence of life their mortal souls. “Remember that Christ the just suffered for us the unjust, to bring us to God. That meant the death of his body, but he came to life again in the spirit. It was in the spirit that he went and preached to the imprisoned souls of those who had been disobedient in the days of Noah.” (1 Peter 3:19)

As we join our forces with heaven we battle the powers of darkness interceding for God’s will to be manifest here on earth; in the lives of men. "He made intercession for the transgressors." (Isaiah 53: 12 What we are asked to do only in prayer He was asked to do in the flesh, agonizing for hours daily over the souls of mankind. Yet we ourselves have not suffered unto death nor will we have to for Christ paid that price once and for all. However we are ask to lay down our will, our plans and follow Him, doing what He asks of us, even then we find difficult what Christ has made easy. When will we see lost souls as He sees them and long deeply to see them free, truly free?

I’m reminded of a testimony I once heard while watching TBN of a man who went to hell and saw the lost soul suffering in agony being tormented by the flames. I can phantom seeing such a sight; but no doubt it would cause me to take up a wailing with deep passion, in an effort to save some from the flames.  Strive to] save others, snatching [them] out of [the] fire; on others take pity [but] with fear, loathing even the garment spotted by the flesh and polluted by their sensuality. (Jude 1:23) We must be motivated by the very thing which move Christ…love for the Father and the desire to see His righteousness manifested in the earth- so they could be partaker of His divine Holiness.

How does this relate to us as children of God and His intercessors in this earth realm; as we humble ourselves in prayer and fasting for transgressors? It shows God that we too are willing to set aside our wills for His for the glory of His kingdom and holiness and for the love He has for the souls of men. “Let you kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth even as it is in Heaven.” (Mathews 6:10) This is why I take such delight in traveling to distant lands to preach the gospel why I am willing to suffer extreme heat, creator comforts and sometimes even physical discomfort just for the sake of reaching lost souls, even to the point of pouring out my soul unto death as it were in intercession for transgressors. What honor! What blessedness! To do the work of the ministry; because He ever lives continually pours out His loving-kindness into our hearts by His Holy.

My Prayer: heavenly Father, You our everlasting loving God. Thank You for opening our eyes to Your vision of Your glorious Son, Jesus Christ…who ever lives making intercession for us all. Thank You for allowing us to join our faith and prayers of intercession with His, to bring about real lasting change in this earth. Father God, thank You for your glorious grace, which enables us to walk in Christ’s likeness. Thank You for allowing us to pray for transgressors everywhere. Father, continue to pour Your grace and mercy into this earth and hearts of your children. Continue to teach us how to pour out unceasing prayer and intercession just as Christ does there in heaven. Let us experience Your immense love for mankind so we never forget to offer up intercession on their behalf to You; In the ever precious saving name of Jesus', Amen.

#86 “How Intercession Fits into the Plan of Redemption
Silence is praise to you,
Zion-dwelling God,
And also obedience.
You hear the prayer in it all
(Ps. 65:1- 2)
The Message (MSG)

Once God had completed His work creating this earth realm He then gave the rulership and authority to govern this world into the control of mankind, (Adam and Eve) who were made in God’s own likeness and image. They were suppose to rule over this world as a viceroy (one who govern over a colony, country, or province who acts for and rules in the name of his sovereign or government) under God. God’s original plan was for Adam to do nothing except with Him and through Him, they were to act as one.  Then God would have liberty to work through Adam to accomplish His will in the earth. God intended for Adam to be the sole owner, the master, the only ruler of this earth. However sin entered into the picture, and drastically altered God’s plans man and earth. Because God had given all power and authority to Adam's, when he fail into sin it not only brought he and his wife a curse but the whole world all of creation as well.  The whole creation is on tiptoe to see the wonderful sight of the sons of God coming into their own. The world of creation cannot as yet see reality, not because it chooses to be blind, but because in God’s purpose it has been so limited—yet it has been given hope." (Romans 8:18-21)

Therefore God had to devise a plan to correct what man had done. Then God came up with a “Plan of Redemption”, His objective was to re-establish man’s place of authority from which they had fallen. God knew he needed to choose servant’s who, through their strong intercession, and relationship with Him would encounter no difficulty receiving what they asked God for, because it would be given to them. Then Christ (the word) became flesh and dwelled among man, because he was both earthly man, and divinely man, He would be able to intercede for mankind. Once he had completed His assignment here on earth He then once again gave or imparted to man the right of intercession. Now we too as His disciples: acting in His authority; could just as He did, receive whatever we need for heaven when we needed it. In His farewell to His disciples in John 15:17 He gave them a sevenfold promise that their prayers would be answered.

Since the beginning of creation God has intensely longed to bless mankind. However His gracious has longs since been dependent on the limitations set forth by His dependence on man’s intercession reaching heaven from earth. “If my people which are called by my name would humble themselves and pray…” What God truly wants and longs to see is the spirit of intercession ascending to heaven as the utmost expression of mankind’s eagerness to not just receive but to become completely yielded to His work and invincible power.

Sooner or later we as Christians will have to realize that we have been given true nobility through Christ. This nobility gives us power with God and freedom to claim with great expectation that Father God will answer our prayers. This is why it is so vital the we see the importance of intercession regarding God’s Kingdom and this earthly realm; then we can embrace our true responsibility to pray.

As each individual child of God takes their rightful position and begin to operate in his true authority God will no longer have to wait to move as He chooses here on earth. “Then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  Then we will see the fulfillment of that great petition "as in heaven, so let it be on earth” when intercessors the world over rise their voices each day and every night asking that God’s power of heaven poured into every heart of mankind. Oh Lord God, burn into every believer’s heart this single thought: Intercession according to Your will is an omnipotent power and most definitely effectual!
My Prayer: Father as we merge our will to Your and join in union with Heavens divine plan and purpose for redemption make us one. Transform our hearts, minds and soul to Your will and desires. Remove every selfish desire and tendency to follow after our own plans.  As the book of proverbs says, “Many are the plans of a man’s heart, but it is the plans of the Lord that will prevail.”  Father let your will be done, in us even as it is in heaven in Jesus Name we pray Amen!!!

#85 “Now You're A Person of Prayer Too”
“If My people, who are called by My name,
would humble themselves and pray…
(II Chronicles 7:14)
King James Version (KJV)

Whether we like it or not everything that has a beginning also has an end, and so too does this series on “Understanding the Purpose and Power of Prayer”, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Dr. Myles Munroe for this amazing book. I truly believe that a good teacher always learns right along with their students; because, each time we open up the word of God we learn something new and exciting. I believe Hebrews 4:12 says it best, “The word of God is living and active. It is sharper than any sword that has two edges. It cuts deep enough to separate soul from spirit. It can separate joints from bones. It judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.”Whenever we take the word of God in our hands it’s like picking up a double edge sword…it cuts both ways coming and going.

Although this series is ending we will begin a new on next week which I hope will take us even deeper into prayer and intercession and what it means pray in agreement with heaven. So what exactly is a person of prayer?
  • Someone who knows the sacredness of prayer and that they have been in trusted by God to pray His will in the earth.
  • They must fully understand what their purpose is here on earth as priest and intercessor’s of God to this world.
  • They must themselves have a trusting relationship with Father God and long to see others know and experience the power and presence or God for themselves.
  • They must understand that as they align themselves with the will of heaven; it will allow the will of the Father to flow into earth from heaven because of their prayers.

It is my hope that you now know and understand the plans of God regarding prayer; but you must pursue God’s plan regarding prayer. According to James 1:22-25 when we know the plan of God regarding prayer and don’t act upon it; we are likened to “a person who beholds their reflection in a mirror, and turns to walk away and forgets immediately what they looked like.” Therefore we must not forget what we have learned once these lessons are concluded. At that point it will be time to implement what has been learned. Put it into action!!

Now you are a partner with God in the great redemption plan of reclaiming this world. “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14) we have now become God’s priests and intercessors in the earth. Many people think that only a special group of people are suppose to be intercessors; but on the contrary all of the body of Christ should be intercessors. Moses was an intercessor, Abraham was an intercessor and Jesus was and still is an intercessor; so too we are suppose to be intercessors in the earth. Each of us have a role to play in bringing the will of God into this earth.

Keep in mind the when we pray we give heaven an earthly license to intervene in earthly affairs; when we agree with God’s will for the earth and mankind. Therefore we must us our authority in prayer to agree with Heavens plans and purposes, otherwise heaven can not intervene.  Thy kingdom come Thy will be done in earth even as it is in heaven. All creation is waiting and depending upon us to pray the will of God into this earth realm. Heaven is depending upon us to pray! Each of us must fulfill our obligation to his or her generation through prayer. What kind of earth are you preparing for the generations which will come after you? What you decree is what will be manifested upon the earth…so what are you praying for?

My Prayer: Father God, thank you for teaching us to pray and understand the importance of prayer here on earth and in the lives of men and women everywhere. Help us to be wise stewards of Your word; we want to be doers of the word not only hearers, who don’t respond to what they hear. We pray to clear understand and direction, help us to walk in what we have learned and to teach others what we have learned that they may grow thereby. As we continue our study of prayer release fresh revelation and understanding to each of us on a daily bases. Give us the wisdom to change the course of earth according to Your Will. These things we ask in Jesus Name Amen!!!

Have A Bless Day…Go in God’s Peace!

#84 “Understanding the Role of Fasting”
(The Right/Wrong Way to Fast) Pt.8

“‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, and you have not seen it?
“‘Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’"
(Isaiah 58:3)
King James Version (KJV)

Have you ever fasted and felt that nothing happened or that God paid you absolutely not attention at all? You afflicted your flesh and it still yelled for attention? It sounds familiar because this is just what the children of Israel did and they were upset with God in Isaiah 58. Now look at what God told them… “Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers. Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fas as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.” The Israelites were fasting so they say; however, they were doing a whole lot of other things which displeased the Lord.

When you fast you flesh doesn’t like and it will on occasion ‘ACT OUT’ just to put it politely. We get irritable and cranky, before you know it you have lashed out at some innocent by stander, who has no clue what you’re upset about. Let’s look at what they were doing on their fast days!

Ø  You do as you please (nothing changes it’s just like any other day to you)
Ø  You exploit those who work for you ( you cheat he laborers)
Ø  You quarrel with the people around you (employees, customer’s wife/husband, children…etc!)
Ø  You have strife between you and others (what do you do to fix it?)
Ø  You hit/strike people with doubled up fist (fighting among you and friends, family...)
Ø  You still expect God to hear your voice from on high (but should He?)

We try to enter into a time of fasting, not just any kind of fast either, but a ‘HOLY FAST’ and think that we can do the same things we always do, say the same things we always say and treat people the same way we always treat them right? Wrong!!! God is not going to answer us over all the mess! I realize that it’s hard to fast but this is why it’s important to steal away, get away if at all possible from all the things that so easily beset or upset you.

When says, “Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly,” He’s wanting us to change our routine and dedicate that time to Him. You may say, “but I went without eating for seven days” however whenever someone spoke to you they nearly lost their head. You still gossiped on the phone for three hours, you went right on doing your things and then at the end of the day you say, ‘I fasted today.’ Did you fast or was that a quick start to your next diet? You must be willing to sacrifice watching TV, playing games on your cell phone or computer, you may even have to miss out on going to hang-out with your friends after 24/7 meeting or Wednesday night bible study. This is what’s meant by seeking His face; know that He has a purpose for calling a holy fast and sacred assembly.

So what could be God’s reason for calling us to fast? “is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:

Ø  Loose the chains of injustice
Ø  Untie the cords of the yoke
Ø  Set the oppressed free
Ø  Break every yoke
Ø  Share your food with the hungry
Ø  Provide the poor wanderer with shelter and clothe
Ø  Not to turn away from your own flesh and blood

These are the reasons God cause the spirit of fasting to come upon us; because, there are souls in need of our help. But that’s not all either, when we yield ourselves to doing His will then He rewards us for doing so! So then what should happens after we complete our fasting…:

Ø  Your light will break forth like the dawn
Ø  Your healing will quickly appear
Ø  Your righteousness will go before you
Ø  The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Ø  When you call, the Lord will answer
Ø  When you cry for help, He will remind you, “I am here”
Ø  The Lord will guide you always
Ø  He will satisfy your needs dry parched land
Ø  He will strengthen your frame.
Ø  You will be like a well-watered garden
Ø  Like a spring whose waters never fail

The kind of fast God longs to see and wants is one that will give you additional power to declare freedom to the bound, open up blinded eyes, heal the leapers raise the dead, break the shackles off the feet and necks of the oppress. The kind of fast that brings deliverance to the lost, causing them to want to know this God we serve. Is there any wonder that Jesus walked in such power and anointing and lived a praying and fasting life? Is there any wonder that the disciples had that same anointing upon their lives? When we obey His will then we too can walk in that kind of anointing and power. “Call A Holy Fast, Call a Sacred Assembly!” and see what God will do during and afterwards!

Beloved if you are sick and tired of struggling to fast only to end up with nothing to show for it but a empty stomach. Then it’s time to get some real results from your sacrifice. Then ask God to consecrate you for the work He has called you!

My Prayer: Father God, over the course of these lessons we have learned that our prayer time for the needs of others, not ourselves. We now understand that fasting is simple another form of intercession, so empower us with the Holy Spirit as we fast in order for us to minister as you desire. Thank you for the power to counteract the works of darkness and set captives free. Father we are willing to set ourselves apart and be consecrate unto you with prayer and fasting. We ask these things in the name of Jesus, our great example of how to fast and pray. In Jesus name,  Amen!

Have A Bless Day…Go in God’s Peace!
